HOW TO PRODUCE LIQUID SOAP
The liquid
soap production business is one of the
business ventures you can start today and generate
a lifetime income from it. While some people call it liquid soap, others know
it as liquid detergent. But irrespective of the different perceptions or names
given to the product, Liquid soap is one of the widely used and consumed
household products all over the world. Each day, the
billions upon
trillions of the aggregate global. Communication buys and consume liquid soap
for our washing and laundry needs. Items and equipments like kitchen utensils,
cutleries, clothes and even the body can be washed with liquid soaps.
One
interesting thing that makes the demand for liquid soap to be on a very high
side is the fact that it is easier to use than other washing substances and
agents like the tablet soaps and the powdered detergents. In Nigeria for instance,
the Mama Lemon is a very popular liquid soap used in many households,
restaurants, hotels, banks, offices, hospitals, companies, small business and
many other consumer spots.
You can start
a business of your own and specialize in the production and marketing of liquid
soaps to make a lot of money for yourself. For the sake of this article, I will carefully walk you through the steps involved in the
production of liquid soap without having any need for complex industrial
machines and techniques. You can simply do this in your house or shop or
anywhere you can find space. It is very simple only if you follow the due
procedures and processes. The ingredients required to produce liquid soaps are
not far-fetched and are not costly. Thus, you do not need to have millions of
money to start this business. With a relatively little amount of money in your
hands, you can setup a liquid soap production business and start earning your
living from it.
Now, the basic ingredients and chemicals (in
their standard quantities and mixture ratios)you will need to produce liquid
soaps and detergents includes the following:
• 1/3 Kilogram
of Anisole
• 2 Litres of
Sulphuric Acid
• 1/4
Kilograms of Soda Ash
• 1/ Kilograms
of Caustic Soda
• 1/3 Kilogram
of Sodium L.S
• Sufficient
quantity of Industrial perfume to serve
as fragrance.
• 2
Tablespoonfuls of Preservative
• 20 Litres of
Water Solution
Moreover, let
me highlight on the functions of these
aforementioned chemical inputs in the liquid soap-making process.
The Anisole acts as a base and also a
thickening agent during the production process.
The Sulphuric acid is added as a
catalyst to boost the Sodium L.S and
also, to work as a minor foaming agent.
The caustic soda serves the
purpose of removing dirt. However, the usually high acidic concentration of the
caustic soda which can burn the skin when it gets in contact with it is
neutralized and diluted by the Soda Ash.
The Sodium L.S is the main active
foaming agent in liquid soaps. While the
industrial perfume gives the soap the desired fragrance, the colorants adds color to the
product.
Also, water is used for the dissolution,
mixture and fermentation of the various ingredients.
As soon as you
procure these inputs insufficient proportions as stated above, proceed to your production floor. However, take a very
good note that liquid soap passes 2 main production processes before it is ready for consumption. Let me vividly explain
the 2 stages and the processes involved in each
of them below:
(1). THE FERMENTATION PHASE:
The name of
this process describes what it is all
about at a first glance. Here, the respective inputs are fermented separately
so as to get them ready for injection into the main production process. Thus,
it involves the following activities:
• Soak your
Anisole for a period of 2 days inside a 15 litres container of fresh water.
• Also, soak
your soda ash for 24 complete hours.
• Soak the
caustic soda solution for a complete day as well.
• Soak the
Sodium L.S for a day too.
The implication of these
instructions is that you have to soak your anisole in water a day before you
soak other chemicals as stated above so as to get the fermentation durations
for each of the ingredients right. If you fail to comply to these steps, you
may end up with a bad output or even expose your health as well as those of the
people around you to sever dangers and environmental hazards. So
be warned.
(2). THE MIXING STAGE:
At this point,
you have to get together all your ingredients for the liquid soap production
and blend them together following the due processes. This is done on the actual
production date. Get a big basin or an open container and also a turning stick
for the mixing activity. Safeguard yourself properly by putting on your hand
gloves. It is also advisable to mask your mouth and nose and also, the entire
face with a suitable transparent mask if possible so as to secure your body and
health from the reactions of the
soap-making ingredients and chemicals.
Once you are ready, proceed with the following
steps one after the other:
• Firstly, mix
the soda ash solution and the sulphuric acid together in a big
container. Stir it properly.
• Get your caustic soda. Add it into the container
and turn them together inside the basin.
• Add the Sodium L.S solution into the container
too and stir the mixture again.
• Pour your Anisole which you have already
fermented into the container and stir it properly so as to make sure that all
the chemical components are properly mixed and distributed.
• Now, check the
thickness of the mixture and consider adding more water or not depending on
your observation or according to the specification or the quality of the liquid
soap that you want to produce.
• Add any industrial perfume of your choice to
your taste into the mixture to give it fragrance. Do so gradually and stir the mixture until you are okay with it.
• Choose a
color for your soap, dissolve it inside
water and add it little by little to the mixture
until you get the desired color for your soap.
• Wow, you now have your liquid
soap / detergent at this point.
• Package your
products in well-designed containers.
Brand your products. If you are producing on a
large scale commercial basis, it will be good
if you register a business name with the
appropriate institution in your country and
get your licenses and certificates.
In Nigeria,
the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC)
is in charge of incorporating new businesses
and companies. Also, register your products
(if necessary) with any cosmetic and healthcare
product in your location. The National Agency
for Food and Drug Administration and Control
(NAFDAC) and the National Drug Law Enforcement
Agency (NDLEA) are the two agencies that have
jurisdiction
in these areas with whom you can get
approvals, numbers, certificates and licenses
where necessary.
• Market your
products at profitable prices and make
your money easily. Your potential customers
and hot selling spots includes hotels,
restaurants, streets, car parks, offices, government establishments, schools,
shops, supermarkets, events, ceremonies, social gatherings, households,
canteens and many other retail outlets where you can find your target consumers.
Infact,
everybody is your customer. Also, you can employ sales representatives to
market your products and pay the fixed salaries or commissions and incentives.
If you can,
rent a shop for your business or install
a plant for your manufacturing activities in a
strategic area where you can easily reach your
customers. Advertise your business through
newspapers, radio and television broadcasts,
magazines, posters, billboards, banners,
handbills and through other cost-effective
promotional channels. As your patronage grows
to fetch you more profits and maximize the
returns on your investments, expand your business
tentacles and enjoy more business gains.
Provide high quality products for your
customers and they will tell their friends
about you and enlarge your consumer reach.
Grant periodic incentives to your customers in order to keep them forever and also, develop your production techniques to always offer them the best.
Interestingly,
you can make more money from the liquid
soap production business by organizing
entrepreneurial classes, sessions, workshops
and seminars where you will teach people
how to make
liquid soaps, charge them moderate
participation fees and sell your
entrepreneurial manuals and materials to them
to make more money.
